Hello dearest inquirers,

How is everyone? The Carnival just ended a few hours ago - did you enjoy yourselves? I hope everyone had just as much fun as I did, for it is probably the last carnival we are going to be involved in as students of the school we should be proud of (but some find it difficult to feel the pride for one reason or another).

Anyway, on to more serious matters. Does everyone remember the photograph-in-a-frame present Mrs Foo got us two years back before she left? Along with those dragonflies that could balance on almost any surface? Two of us apparently didn't get the photos, and Mrs Foo has gone to the effort of printing two more just for the two of you. However, we don't really know who the two of you are... So.. if you didn't get your photo 2 years back, can you please tell me?

After reading denise's post, i realised 2E1 meant a lot more to me than what I thought. It may be a hell lot more chaotic than 3E1, but there's a fair share of joy and laughter and most of the teachers we got were a hell lot better than what I got this year. Not to forget, i got a bunch of united classmates, though we all have cliques that we tend to be more close to.

Even madam irene yeo (be thankful i didnt just say irene yeo) seems to be much more better when she was put to comparison with angeline lim. I really really detest sec3 life. It's a life where those teachers expect a lot more from you, especially when you're in 3E1 and stuck with angeline lim.

Some of the events that reserved a big space that happened in 2008 includes hilarious literature lessons, sleepy lectures from miss sazryna, relellious lesson during english and the we-all-can-imitate-madam tami (:

I remembered hating literature from the start, because mrs vee once said that "we are wasting her time by scoring a mere pass or a few marks better than that" however, once the acting part starts in around term 3, i was almost looking forward to all the literature lessons.

I miss acting retardedly as Billy and laughing like mad when Revinesh was the landlady. I also miss being the 3rd party and komathy being Patrick. Memorable moments like these will never be forgetten, i promise.

There's also madam tami's lesson, where she will like to go "come boy/girl, let's sit down and do work " and after like 5-6 months, almost all of us can imitate her. Cool right. Side note: Madam Zurina is also quite good lah :D Science lesson with madam irene yeo = complains :D Me and yuxiang like to complain to each other how much she like to contradict herself and the textbook.

One thing not to be left out, is the fun I have with yuxiang,denise & jermaine at my sitting position. And to the 3 of them , remember our waving game? Hahas, although we are all in the same class now, but we're all sitting so far apart except im still beside yuxiang and jermaine is quite near but denise is far away :(

Moments of yuxiang and denise correcting my english mistakes started to fill in my heart when I started typing. So many flashbacks, so many moments, so many memories. Chaotic times when we've a change of lesson, getting irritated by people who came to yuxiang table and make a hell lot of noise when i want to sleep, and of course not to be forgotten, those times when I've a hard time making announcements in class.

Hello ex-2E1, has anybody ever thought about it? Well those that went for camp anyway, have you ever thought about your grouping? Like that group you're in is actually your class and not well, not groups that the teacher randomly put you in? Have you ever thought about it in that perspective?

Well if you haven't, I most certainly did. Has anyone missed 2E1? Life in 2E1 was fun, no? Don't we all feel somewhat alienated in our new classes? We are now spread across the level from 3E1 all the way to 3E5 - we'll never ever be together again because 2E1 ceased to exist as of 1 January 2009.

I dare say that I miss 2E1, a lot. Yeah I miss you guys a lot. Remember those times we created havoc during english lessons? (I meant Ms Wong's lesson not Mrs Foo's) Okay maybe not all of us created havoc but yeah do you remember those times where a small group of us would rebel and cause chaos in class? Remember Faiz and his antics during english lesson? Remember my obvious disrespect? Remember those times where I would shout to Mavis about what she wanted to eat during recess when the recess bell rung?

Remember literature lessons? Where Mrs Vee will scream at Jiayi and call her a mermaid? Or the time when Darrel became the "mistress" in Lamb To The Slaughter? Maybe Revinesh, too? When he acted as the crazy landlady in The Landlady? You guys might have forgotten all about it, but I haven't. Literature lessons were almost always hilarious right? As for now, okay maybe literature is no longer in your subject combination but here's a sure thing I can tell you. Literature is no longer a lesson where i laughed my head off at Revinesh's antics.

And then would you still remember the chaos we created in between lessons? Like when Jiayi turns violent and starts chasing Jeffrey around the class, maybe Faiz too. And then there'd be Mavis chasing someone around with a book, and there'd be well, chaos! Normal for us, though half of us are in 3E1, it's not the same. 3E1 is quiet to the point where you can hear a pin drop. We're... We're dead, to say the least. Lifeless, to be exact.

Would you remember sports fiesta too? Where we cheered each other on? Wearing our orange class teeshirts and telling one another that 3N8'o8 has a similar class tee? And then you'd see the orange contingent making a lot of noise in the field with " E1.... E1!, E1...E1!" and "It's okay, It's alright, E1 E1 fight fight fight!" when the entire field is very quiet. And then those "cheerleaders" would run towards the boys' field to cheer them on, too.

Do you remember? All those times we had? Well I was thinking about all these during camp when well, my morale was low and disliking my class ~~form teacher~~ and I'd think about all these whilst staring into space and someone would always break my reverie. Do you miss 2E1? I thought about all these during camp because camp served as a painful reminder to me - that we will never be together, ever again. Never will we sit together in the same class and study about the same things ever.

I've always thought about group chopchop as well,a group and not my new class before in my heart, 2E1 is my class, not 3E1. Because in my heart, I now I will only truly belong in 2E1 and nowhere else. The love we shared, the unity we had, the bond... We'll never achieve that same thing in our new classes because it'll never be the same without the same people.

Who cares about cliques when all cliques can gel together against one common enemy? And can you people forget about the warm fuzzy feelings we had on the first night during secondary 2 camp dinner? When they announced that we were allowed to eat with our classes? How we screamed our heads off and the like because we were so happy? And then how we helped each other wash up and save seats for each other? Even to the point of sharing food?

Maybe you've forgotten, but I haven't. And one thing I know I'm sure about - that someday(&not now), someday I'd be able to look back at those memories and smile. Because 2E1, you are the one that makes life in Sengkang Sec bearable.

2E1, I love you.
And I know that 2E1 will never die, and we would all be able to look back and smile because that (might) is one of the fondest memories you've ever had in Seng Kang Sec.

A gift for the new year

To my dearest E1s,

You'd have received my gift by now - it was actually meant for the first day of school, but alas circumstances had it such that the gifts were only distributed on Monday. Another unfortunate thing is also that I simply couldn't find a picture with everyone in it, due to absentees on various days where we took whole class photos (and also people who deliberately hide themselves in the picture!), but I had to pick one, so I picked the most recent, taken on the last day of school in Semester 1 2008. No matter what, I really hope you do like it cos it took me quite a lot to get all the things organised, cut them to size (the silly Ikea frame doesn't seem to be of the standard photo size; ugh!), assemble them, and have Mrs Lee pick them up from me. Credits to her for doing that favour for us, and many thanks to the people who helped with the distribution even though we aren't all together as a class anymore. I very much appreciate the time and effort taken :)

So anyway, why a present? Well, there are multiple reasons. Apart from wanting for there to be something to make all you reluctant kids smile on the dreary first day of school, I suppose I really want you to have something tangible and physical to remind each of us of the two years you spent together with each other, and the 1.5 years I spent with you. A more personal reason for me is actually to do something nice for you while I'm still somewhat recent in your experiences in school, and haven't become totally irrelevant to your lives; and the reason for doing that, a little selfish though it might be, is hopefully to be remembered by you all.

It's a fact of life - and a truth that you may already have learnt, or if not will eventually find out - that when people's paths diverge and they no longer see each other on a regular basis, they are not able to be as involved in each others' lives and hence become less relevant to each other - a word I had chosen to use in the earlier paragragh.

That being said, is not necessarily a sad thing. It is first of all, only a natural progression in life; for one, I can't possibly always be a teacher to you in the setting of a secondary school because you aren't always going to remain in school, and neither am I always going to be teaching in the same place - yes, I'm aware that it has already been established in reality (;

Still, let's not just all move on as if nothing happened before. How I personally handle partings in life is to move on but still look back at old experiences - to enjoy the memories with the people I had been with, take the good things from the past to direct ourselves forward, and learn from the bad what to avoid. When our paths cross again - be it from a catch-up gathering, an unexpected meeting on the street - we'll pick up from where we left off, and I'll show the same warmth and care the friendship deserves, as it was from the old days.

That's what I think anyway. You'll probably figure out what perspective you'll take on friendships that become old. But if I may offer a piece of advice, from someone who has gone ahead of you, friends get harder to come by once you are done with school; by then, you'll find that it'll be easier to maintain old friendships than to start new ones.

That, is of course assuming that you have to begin with, friendships to be maintained. Let's hope there is, and that there will be.

Two months ago, I had a class gathering with my ex-classmates from secondary school. We were in the same class in Sec 3 and 4, but we hadn't seen each other for 13 years since we left school. Only 10 people could make it that day, but after more than a decade, I reckon a quarter of the class is jolly good. We had such a great time getting up to speed about each other's life and work, who's married, who's with kids, and then we had an even greater time talking about old times in school, of our teachers and other classmates.
A few weeks later, I went with 2 friends to visit the school, and caught up with our form teacher who, after all this time still remembers us, and all the antics we were up to some 13 years ago.

Perhaps someday, a decade on, this may be a picture of you and your upper sec classmates, or even with your lower sec classmates. I hope that even then, me and my strictness, along with my somewhat boring (but still useful) English lessons will still be mentioned somewhere in your conversation.

One last thing about the gift - I wanted to make sure you know in some way, that even though I'm no longer around much, and don't have the chance to tell you: I'll still remember all of you, simply because you meant a lot to me, and even though we'll all be moving on, my thoughts are still with all of you, except that I'll have little opportunity to make that known.

I hope that somehow, all these things can be conveyed in that small gift, and that you'll find the gift to fulfil some, if not all, of the purposes I've mentioned.

Hello e1iians!

We, as a class, have been through thick and thin together, and we have done many things together. Memories will stay with us for the rest of our lives. Life, is short and difficult, but we can make it enjoyable by living life to the fullest. Let us remember to share our joys with the ones we love, and allow your troubles to be shared amongst your friends. Through sharing your joys and troubles will your relationship with your loved ones be improved. (:

Life can be different depending on how you view it. Take the rain as an example. You may dislike rain for the way it always darkens everything. But after the rain, when the clouds are cleared, the stars will then greet you. I believe that happiness must be created by ourselves. By looking at sorrow from another perspective, it becomes joy.

In a way, life is but a journey filled with choices. A journey we can choose to enjoy, or a journey we wish to end as soon as possible. Always think optimistic, and however hard your journey may be, the storms will clear, and there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

I wish that you guys will remember the following I am going to say. When the storm draws nigh, dreams will shatter before your eyes. But know that you're not alone, when your battle starts, your friends will comfort your restless heart, and you'll know that you're home. (: When your stars stop shining, endless vines around you winding, know that you're not alone. Your friends will give their all, so your tears will no longer fall. Hi 2e1'08iians.
This is our last year we're going to be together the way we are. After today, we will never be the same again.. we won't be together as a class anymore, but that does not mean we cannot keep in touch with each other anymore, right? Try not to forget your friends from 2e1, alright? Hello world/country/blog/2e1:

Exams are over, time to do things that you cannot do due to the $%^&*( exams. (eg. watching shows, using internet till late hours, playing like some mad guy and going out till late night :P) Most of us have seen our results, and i'm sure that some of us will be happy and sad. Whatever it is, sorrow or happiness, thats it, we choose it .

No point regretting now. It still isnt too late to work hard now. Ok fine,perhaps ending up in a bad class next year may upset you. But with determination , a big word here, im sure nothing can put you guys down. It is quite impossible for all of us, or rather 3/4 of us to end up in the same class next year. So, treasure the last few days you could have with 2e1 exluding the class outing.

For those who scored well, congrats. You guys deserved it, because im rather convinced that you guys have put in consistent effort and have been doing consistent work. Like what madam tami like to say : 'come boy/girl, sit down and do work' . HAHAHA!

ALL THE BEST FOR THE END OF YEAR EXAMINATIONS!

Hi everyone,

I hope you get to see this post while it's still the exam period.

It's amazing how time has flown. 14 weeks since start of Semester 2. I haven't seen you all for that long (sports fiesta aside), and you're at the end of the road - the EOY exams.

I really want to wish everyone the best, that you'll work hard to get into the class you want to be in next year. It'll be another beginning for you in your upper sec life and I hope you'll put in the best effort that will set you up for the next two years.

For the papers that have passed, don't fret over it if you suspect you mightn't have done well. I've said this before, but I'm sure you need reminding: the paper that you've submitted is over, and no amount of worrying, wondering, cursing or regret is going to make the paper any better than you did. Besides, sometimes you can't tell for sure how exactly how well you do. And even if you didn't do so well, you don't have to go worrying and end up doing badly for the rest.

Bottom line: it's over, move on. Concentrate on the next paper instead of focussing your energy on things you can't change.

Other usual exam naggings: please drink enough water and eat regular meals. If you think you are going to fall sick, please take more fluids, fruit, vit C and rest. Yes, I know time is of the essence in revision time, but you're going to be counter-productive if you actually fall sick.

Tip: You'll probably retain more in your memory if you study, sleep early, and wake up an hour earlier than usual to just revise before going to school. That's better than mugging till 2am and then waking up zonked at 6 and wondering what exactly went through your head in the middle of the night.

I'll keep this short, since you should be going ahead to study and revise. Remember to encourage and help each another through this stressful period that will lead up to the end of these two years of E1 life.

In Darrel's previous post, he did mention that the class blog was becoming more and more inactive, and he wanted more posts, so here I am (: Anyway, my sister said that every single blog that is owned by a group of people seemed to die off after a while, and I'm determined to prove to her that that will not be the case for our Class blog! ^^

Anyway, from the conversations I have had with my friends, I know that some of us did well in our Common Test and some of us did slightly below our expectations, and our report card says it all. I know a lot of us are feeling discouraged and upset but don't give up! We still have our end-of-years to work hard for, and I believe that with determination, effort put in and the never-say-die attitude, all of us here will be able to excel in our exams and go into our desired subject combinations/class! ^^ So let's all work hard, for next year, for our future! (:

Alright, I've said what I wanted to say, and I hope I made those that were feeling disappointed feel a bit more happy. (: Lift your spirits and work harder, okay? ^^

Sorry for being so selfish, sorry for being such an ass. After reading a few classmate's blog, I feel very guilty for not turning up for sports fiesta today due to a bloody doctor appointment.

A letter from your teacher

(not ex-teacher; you'll always be my students even if I'm no longer teaching you)

My dearest E1,

Hi to you guys on the first day of school! I'm sure it was a dreary day for everyone, and for others involved in the cultural night performance, most probably a mix of jitter and relief because is it one day closer to the performance, and also one day closer to the end of it.

I'm glad to have managed to catch some of you in class today (yes, for those of you who didn't know, I came to school for about an hour in the morning, sometime during your recess). I would have liked to say hi to those of you in the canteen since I really hoped to see all of you, but I avoided the crowded area for fear of being mobbed by the most of the Sec 1s whom I taught, and some of the Sec 2s. (And I'm NOT being presumptuous about my popularity or lack thereof; I'm just cautious.)

I've been meaning to post in the class blog since I announced to you that I've resigned, but of course, there were plenty of other things going on (I had to sort out all the things I was responsible for to pass them on etc etc) and though I had drafted a letter, I didn't eventually post it because somehow, there was just no good way to phrase a good bye.

Now that it's a month after, and the parting feelings of sadness are less intense, it's probably easier to put things across. And I want to post something before the last occurrence of my name on "the guiders" roll on the class blog join the ranks of those that have been deleted. I'm happy that my name is there in three places, and that up till now, English is the only subject that hasn't been changed, without any names being struck out. Of course, that's about to change, but for as long as it has been, for what it's worth, I'm glad to have been a constant for the class for this long.

As for what I'm going to post, it's in two parts (I know, it's already so long right?): the first is just somethings I wish to say; the other, is a list of FAQs. I've been asked a number of questions by various people on different occasions, and I figure these might be the things that most of you want to know, but just don't have the chance to ask.

So here goes.

1. Some things I wish to say.

Do you still remember me saying that you are the class for me? If you don't, here's reminding you that you are. You are that special and irreplaceable class that happened once for me, and I don't want you to forget that.

It's true that some of you are saddened by how the class lacks involvement in class events; due to cliques or loyalty of friendship to various people the class is divided; yet others are just not interested about the class or bothered to be involved at all. To the first, I applaud your thoughtfulness, efforts and initiatives. Don't give up, and try to spread the enthusiasm among those close to you and hopefully, they'll do the same and it'll catch on eventually. Don't let the poor response get to you too much. (I still hope to get a class tee, go to class outings and chalets, so ya, you have at least one more person behind you here!)

To the second, I know no details as to what had gone on, but I say to everyone, live and let live. Learn to forgive yourself and others. In life, there will be disagreement and differences, there will be mistakes that others and we ourselves make. Nobody said that loyalty to one is shown solely by the exclusion of something else. In other words, there's no need to avoid or shun somebody/group just to display your friendship to another. If everyone can be more tolerant, the effect of improvement is not just the total of the efforts made by people, but definitely multiplied.

For the third, I have this to say: Things like studying and getting excellent grades are important. They should not be overlooked. But if they become so important that it obscures other things, then the amount of importance that you placed on them have to be reconsidered. Grades are important, but life is so much more than grades (and later for you in life, money or status instead of grades). If you don't develop friendships, you are missing out on life. And here's news for you: friendships take time and effort to build; it doesn't come from nothing. And if you aren't willing to sacrifice time and effort, here another news for you: friendships come with sacrifices. You accommodate your friends, be willing to give than receive. That's how friendships are built in the first place. You may think that class activities and friendships are a waste of time, but that experience is going to be worth more than you expect it to be. For one, it's good training ground for you to develop social skills and practise working with others. For when else will you learn? Only when you start working?

(Disclaimer: This does not apply to all of you; I know there are some of you who spend so much time with friends that school work is neglected!)

To each and everyone of you - there are only 15-16 short weeks left before you finish exams and split into different classes. I truly hope that everyone really try to treasure the time together. Petty feuds or misunderstanding don't matter in the big picture. You'll be finishing half of your time in Seng Kang (Yes, you'll be leaving the school sooner) and what can you say you've accomplished then? I hope it isn't just the results, because results can't mean everything in life.

This post is long enough. I'll put the most frequent FAQs at the end, and the rest in another post this week. If you have a question you'd like to ask me, do so on the tag board and I'll add them to my list.

Lastly, I love you guys and I'll miss you loads.

I'm not posting for fun (well not all actually)

(1) Class Photos
Okay first off, does any of you want your class photos back? If you do, please bring it or it'll affect the entire class and I do not enjoy carrying a hell lot of photographs everyday. Hopefully by tomorrow, we can write down the names of people who haven't returned the photos and partners ; do your part and chase them.

(2) Motivation (:
I know Mrs Koh said that there are six failures for math, one being yours truly ( Yes I'm not ashamed because I know I'm real weak at math). And to those six failures, practice your butt off and let's pass our Mid-Years with flying colours ;D And that way, there's gonna be 100% passes in our class and we'll get less nagging from math teachers. ie; Mrs Koh. If I can pass , so can the rest of you (:

I don't know much about english so I shan't say anything.
As for history,I know miss Sazy said that there's a quarter failures for each section ; SBQ and SEQ. And I bet I did super badly for SBQ (: For those who failed (and let's hope miss sazy's exaggerating by the quarter part) , work harder yeah? :DD That way, less nagging from one other teacher.

Speaking of nagging, to stop Mrs Foo from nagging at our incorrigible english or lack of reading proper reading materials (which i don't know what goes under proper and inproper reading materials) , just bring the newspapers on mondays. And read only Life! Cos that's the only one that rocks and honestly, I'm not interested in politics, and I'm sure none of you are.
For those who have a higher command in english , it's high time you start with novels. And that (hopefully) includes Harry Pottty (:

hey guys, i do believe mrs foo had mentioned that we could post things we want to share with the class right? i don't really have anything to share but I need some help at the moment, so i'll put it up now=)

My sister is doing a project on self-harm. She needs interviewees but her friends refuses to be interviewed.. so she and her group are kind of stuck. you need not have been self-harming to help, because there is a set of questions for either those who self-harm, and those who haven't inflicted harm on themselves.

If you can help, please do inform me, and tell me if you are okay with being filmed. if you are not okay with being filmed, your interview answers will be acted out by someone else, and your answers will be treated as anoyminous [ i can't spell that word] .

Oh well, the thought of people living and dying at the same time is creepy=/ Have you guys ever thought like that? We're living, yet we're dying at the same time. hmmm....

Anyway, i've participated at the L.O.S.T booth during recess today, and i think that these activities are really meaningful. If you have the chance, try to participate in any activities you can okay? ;D think its worth the time.. and its fun anyway, so why not give it a go? ;)

Cos not many of us think that we can even pass our picture discussion,and well,I'm one of them anyway. Remember the background, prominent character,what might happen next and the purpose of the picture :) the purpose and what might happen next can be improvised if you are a quick thinker,I guess.I don't know,I'm not an english teacher thank you :)

And remember whatever reading aloud pointers that we learnt last year, I think it's best we work on BOTH of them so that people like me who can't describe for nuts can use the reading aloud scores to kind of pull our marks up? (

I've patiently listened to you guys complain about everything under the sun before, in your blogs, here, in the cbox. Now it's your chance to hear about my peeves:

Here I am, on a Tuesday afternoon, home early and seated in the study because I've cleared out my very busy weekday schedule to come home, where there is no distraction, focus and mark your discursive essays (in case you don't know, I'm usually so busy with my other school stuff that I hardly have time to mark so I have to MAKE time to sit down properly to mark, especially when it comes to essays). I'm all geared up and mentally ready to analyse what you've written so that I can give you comments on how you can improve your content for a discursive topic, to return you this Thursday before I get you to write out your first draft for your 2nd essay.

But I can't. I find it sooooooooo HARD to think about the content of the essay.

Not that I can't think - my analytical mind works perfectly well, thank you. It is thanks to some of your wonderful lack of effort to present your essay in proper spelling and punctuation that's causing my inability to comment on your writing.

"WHAT?" I hear some of you respond, but listen to this: It is very difficult to read an essay for what its worth in thought if there are just too many mistakes, even if I'm not marking it.

It's even more difficult for a mind whose training and preoccupation is to pick out mistakes in essay.

Don't understand? In simple words, it means: Because I am a teacher whose job is to correct errors, I will not be able to mark your essay properly for content if you punctuate your essays not just with fullstops and commas, but also with a zillion mistakes.

To be fair, I'm NOT expecting an essay to be absolutely free of grammar mistakes, but give me a break lah. Do you know how many essays I have to read with the small letter 'i' for the first person pronoun? Do you know how many "I"s are written in each essay on the average? I'm reading so many essays that don't have correct punctuation either. Simple stuff like spacing between words and after fullstops.

Remember why I said we should all try to reduce grammar / punctuation errors, why I actively practise peer-editing in class? IF there are less mistakes in your essay, I can concentrate on the more important stuff like content, sentence structure, whether your ideas flow etc.

Now I'm painfully going through essays, some of which I can't help but see all the mistakes sitting there in the lines and staring me in the face - just how am I to focus on your points?

If you don't understand why I'm so bothered, get this: I want to give you good comments so that you can improve. Discursive essay is not easy and I want to give you all the help I can give, but I realise I'm not getting much help from you if you just submit an essay you didn't bother to check at all for simple errors.

Enough said. I still HAVE TO mark those essays and give comments. Read this everyone, and those culprits, be knocked over with guilt when you get back your essays because I had a HARD TIME reading it.

I'm hoping part of my frustration will dissipate with this entry, but I have this sinking feeling that it'll all rise again each time I get one of those essays.

Hi all,

Happy New Year to everyone! How did you spend New Year's Eve? I spent a quiet meal with my family and then went home to nurse my cough (i'm still very ill at the moment >_<") while watching the X-Men trilogy on cable with my husband. Very quiet but pleasant.

How was the first week of school? I hope you have had time to catch up with your classmates whom I'm sure you missed heaps over the long holiday.

If you complained about week 1, I'm sure you'll long for it once week 2 hits you. Classes will start, homework will come. Well, all the best!

For EL lessons next week, please note the following:

- You MUST bring the Thematic Vocabulary book to school for the first EL lesson.

- EIG will be used only later on so no need to bring it yet.

- You MUST keep all Sec 1 Materials with you at home in another file. Your green file will be used to file this year's notes. You will be asked to bring the file at a later time.

- Do START PREPARING for your oral exam (should be T1W7) by reviewing the points from the reading notes and practicing reading skills. Do the same for last year like reading aloud to someone, listening to the news etc.

I know people are groaning at these already, but it pays to be prepared.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

I'm pretty sure that all of you are feeling morose (means moody, pessimistic) about going back to school, so here's somethings that'll help get you through the first day / week / term in school.
(I hear some of you groaning already, but trust me, you're probably the only lucky ones with a teacher to warn you ahead so that you can come prepared.)

> Special programmes for start of school

I don't have the details for it, but instead of normal lessons there are some special programmes that have been arranged (including meeting your Form Teacher). So on the first day, you don't have to bring text books etc (hooray!) BUT please at least bring the following:

- writing materials : paper / stationery (you will probably find that having some nice markers or coloured pens useful)
- reading materials (storybook / newspaper)
- your own diary / notebook to take down things to bring etc

> English Oral Exam (towards the end of Term 1)

Don't mean to put you off but better for you to know earlier than later. You will be taught the new component - Picture Discussion, which will be tested in the exam with the Reading component. You should start preparing for the Reading component on your own now (there won't be time for us to revise during class time). Use Sec 1 notes to revise and practise your reading skills.

My strong personal advice: you should start straightaway if you intend to do well.

> Expect many changes

I'm sure you already expect that Sec 2 work and student life is going to be harder than what you had in Sec 1, but also be prepared for there to be quite a number of changes that the school is going to make. Don't be surprised, shocked or dismayed. :) Changes are usually both good and bad, and changes just always takes getting used to. You'll find out more in the first week of school.

Keeping the blog alive

Hi everyone!

I hope you guys have had a good break. I'm all for keeping the blog alive and I have just one simple suggestion:

Type anything that you'd like to share with the class, email it to the administrators, who will then post it on the blog for you.
(It's arranged for there to be a few administrators rather than to let everyone have access so that there won't be confusion the eventually lands us with a messy blog).

I remember in my JC days (10 years ago, when internet was still new to students and irc was all the rage), we didn't have blogs obviously, but we had a large book which we decorated and called it our class diary. It was passed around and each person got to have it for a day or two, write whatever they want about themselves, the class, whatever happened, and then pass it on. As the book went around, we all got to read all sorts of interesting stuff. It was great to see what we accumulated at the end of the semester. It was a symbolic record of how time passed us by while we were living our busy student life.

Things are much better for your guys now with so much advancement of the IT age. You guys can all post on the blog whenever you want, (where as my peers and I had to wait around for our turn). So I really suggest that everyone just write something for it to be posted.

I'm sure everyone did something interesting during the hols. Went somewhere interesting, did something fun? Been to the class chalet? Tell the rest of us all about it! Read a good book, seen a good movie? Recommend it to us!

Why don't we all start with that? It's definitely a way to get things looking up around here :)

The last thing we need is our class blog to be dead.We can't possibly keep trying to keep it alive by tagging nonsensical stuff over and over again.Sometimes to the extent that we flood the tagboard.I know it's the school holidays and we are literally just rotting in our houses when your parents ban you from the outside world.

I hate to break it out to everybody,sadly,school is starting.For those who didn't do that well during End Of Years',work harder and strive for exellence,do the best of your ability.For those who did well,work on the subjects you are weakest at and build up on it's foundation.Yes,yes I know for most of us,it means either math,geography,science or english.And I know we dislike the subjects,but get your foundation built and you can continue disliking the subject your weakest at in peace.

We're sec two next year.Streaming..etc.etc. coming.We've better brace ourselves for endless naggings from teachers and principal alike.

THE CHALET organised by the class HAS BEEN BOOKED
for two days one night on Monday 10 Dec to Tuesday 11 Dec. Yay!!! (:
It will be at Costa Sands Resort Pasir Ris.

Please do the following:

a) Inform Denise (thank you Denise for helping out) whether you are coming and/or staying so that the class can plan various things.

b) Volunteer to help in the following items:
~ deciding meeting time / place
~ organising travel plans (to travel from Seng Kang to Pasir Ris)
~ planning outdoor activities (day) and indoor games (night)
~ arranging food for dinner (BBQ?)
~ offer to bring any thing that might be needed for the chalet

ANNOUNCEMENT FOR CLASS CHALET

Hey 1e1ians,

I'm writing say a few things about the chalet, so please read on.

1. I would like to clarify the facts for the chalet.
Due to some complicated factors (which is long and difficult to explain), it is not possible to have a chalet that is initiated by the teacher (it's complicated. don't ask me why. *sigh*) So in order for us to have a class chalet, it must be initiated by the pupils. Hence we declare the following points for the class chalet.

- This is a class chalet organised by students from the class.
- Form teacher / subject teachers are invited by the class to the BBQ or to stay over.
- Students are reponsible for their own safety for any activities they plan in the day time (e.g. going to theme park, cycling, spending time in the park etc)
- Parents are welcomed to come / participate / interact with pupils / contribute food / stay.
As it is really difficult and inconvenient for me to explain why this is so, I would really appreciate if you can take it as a fact of life rather than questioning why. I understand if some of you are bewildered or feel like complaining, but I really try to do what I can in the face of the many apparent obstacles to having a class chalet. This class-organised chalet will still be paid for by your form teacher, who is sponsoring the booking of the chalet (: [of course, do be reminded that other expenses - going to theme park, food/drinks, BBQ will be borne by yourselves.]
Also, because this is *problem* is sensitive in nature, I'd appreciate if this part of the discussion is only kept to ourselves and not discussed with others to prevent bad consequences (such as - worse case scenario - a forced-cancellation of chalet .)
Others just need to know that 1e1 students are organising a chalet for themselves.

Please be sure to inform / remind your parents of the points mentioned above. If they still allow you to stay over with these points in view, great. If they don't, do just join the activities in the day and if possible the BBQ at night. Be open to your parents coming for the BBQ if they wish to. They are probably concerned about our safety at night or make it easier for you to go home at night if they do not wish for you to stay over.
I hope that there'll be no misunderstanding with your parents over this change in facts. If they need to verify facts with me, they can email me at koh_jamie@moe.edu.sg

2. Organising a class chalet is a big job. I strongly suggest for everyone who is interested to come for the chalet (whether staying or not) to offer help in the organisation. There is plenty to do, and it's not a job that only the class commitee should be involved in. E.g. logistics (meeting time / place, travel/transport details), BBQ, activities in the day, indoor games at night etc. So please do help make your class chalet work by being initiative and helping. Besides, if you are involved in the organising of a chalet, you'll have experience that's useful for organising your own chalets (for CCA, family, Sec 2/3/4 year end chalet) in future.

In any case, we will need the list of people who are coming, as well as people who are coming and staying for us to know then numbers in order to plan.
Please inform Darrel, Shi Ke or Denise if you are coming and/or staying once I confirm the date and location. I will post the details on the class blog once my booking is confirmed. (Thanks for patiently waiting thus far. I still have to make a few calls to confirm details.)

As naggy as you are. As much as you make us hate you, you still did many things that we ought to thank you for.I mean ,i admit that your nagging isnt all bad, but it's boring &that we're forever three quarter asleep once you start nagging take the before-the-handing-out-of-report-book nagging session for example.But it's for our own good right?All those read the newspapers to improve of english.As well as gain insights on the world AND in Singapore.Like the gay issue.&the self editing;i must say it DID help me for my composition;i did self editing&i found spellin errors&tense mistakes strewn across my paper. It DOES help. &Eventhough you did scold us about our attire once in awhile,it's to save our necks from being chopped off by that discipline master.&i've really regretted not listening to you about running away from mrZulkfili,because now, i have one offence form.

Moreover,you, not bothering about our attire is kind of putting you at risk of getting scolded or something.i dontknow what you will get when you dont do what the ridiculous school asks you to do.I remember there's this list where you have to put names of students who were naughty&you simply left it blank , just to help us. &Not only that , you've spent a lot of money for our class, from your own pocket.Which i dont think many teachers will actually do, or bother to. Take the class tee shirt for example,you just forked out so much of you own money to make sure everybody gets a class tee; INCLUDING those who could not afford the shirts.&the class parties?&the class photos? I cant say i'm not touched by all this. You too spent time to organise things for OUR enjoyment , like the class parties&all that, you took time to buy the things needed&you took the time to ask us what we wanted, to consider our thoughts &feelings. I can use the class chalet as an example.You did not book the chalet at changi because we didnt want to.&you actually spent time to check if we could use the aloha chalet.And as much negative points you have, you are actually a good teacher in such a school.I rate you four our of five stars if there's such a rating system(Said by Jasmine)

Use your holidays wisely! We deserve this upcoming holiday =]

However we should also revise our work while enjoying the upcoming holidays.

My advice to all :

Read your next year textbooks
no, i'm not kidding. Honestly, reading your textbooks before hand helps a lot in the next year.
Read it as though it is a non-fiction story book. You need not understand or memorise or anything. Just read for "fun". Somehow, its supposed to help ._. well, or at least thats what my sister said.

Read more books
this really helps your english, especially your composition. Its the holidays! what harm can it do to just use some time to read some more storybooks? furthermore, reading books is fun! You can have fun while learning! isn't that wonderful? you could note down words you don't understand, then use the dictionary to see what the words mean. You could then try to use them in your compositions next time =]

Go out with your friends!
it has been a very long year and busy year. We should now use some time to go out with our neglected friends- primary school friends. I think many of us are missing them and would love to catch up with them. Go out with your friends! Its always better than staying at home, giving them a call or sending them an email.

don't forget to keep in touch with your SKSS friends as well, of course! =)

End of Term 3 Class Party

Heya~ :)

I mentioned in class that the class party was to be held tomorrow, however we'll be in the hall for PC lesson. Hence I've changed it to Thursday after school instead. It'll be a very small affair and won't take very long. We'll come back to class quickly after the concert. Hope you guys don't mind staying back just for half an hour or so. Apologies to those who after classes after school on Thursday - there really isn't a much better time to have it.

We'll be celebrating the birthdays of those who had their birthdays in July and August, and Teachers' Day too I guess, since it's on that day where we have celebrations. (And on that note, just to remind anyone planning to get me anything: keep it simple and practical. Usefulness is important. Please try not to get greeting cards; they are costly and a real rip-off considering how much more excellent art work some of you guys can produce!) For food, I'll be getting the cake - (I'll contribute $10; rest from class fund). I suggest that we don't get too much tidbits. For those of you who'd like to bring something to share with others, feel free to do so.

Looking forward to the end of the term. Hang in there everyone, the year is almost coming to an end. Only a few weeks after this term :)

My dear 1e1,

I heard little about the sports heats that took place, and I'm sure not everyone has been updated about what has happened over those two days either. If those who have been going down to take part or support can update all of us, that'll be really great. Please do tell us something about the sports heats on the tagboard :) I, for one, would like to hear all about it.

Apologies to those who have missed my presence at the stadium. I'm sorry I could not go because I had classes with the Sec 4s on Thursday and on Friday, I had meetings. I was there with you all in spirit though. Go 1E1!

Would also like to appreciate all those who are helping out with the class T-shirt. From brainstorming, designing, selecting, liasing with printer to taking orders, thanks for all the effort. I'm really excited about the T-shirt. I bet we're the only Sec 1 class with a class T-shirt! I even doubt if many of the Sec 2 classes have it, so it's really a milestone for our class! It's superb!

Hi every 1E1-ian,

I heard that some of you might be confused, so I'm here to clear doubts about the two things concerning the Litespeed E-learning portal

1. Litespeed Competition: This is to be done 5th and 6th Aug at your own time. You access the portal to complete the competition by the night of the 6th. You still have to come to school on Monday, 6th Aug.
For this competition, just try your best. If you find difficulty doing it, just do as much as you can do.

2. E-Learning Day: This will take place on one day in Term 3 Week 10. You won't have to come to school that day. Instead, you access online lessons at home.

I hope this clears up any confusion.

Hi all 1e1ians,

Just to inform you that there will be an oral exam next semester in Term 3. Only the Reading component will be tested and we will be covering some of the oral skills in class. Those of you who would like to prepare and practice in advance, you can do so by

i) reading aloud (passages from Reader's Digest, books or newspapers) and listening to your pronunciation;
ii) listening to the local English news on TV to hear how and see how words are pronunced. It's really helpful now that they put in subtitles.

Doing these at least twice a week will be very helpful. It will be easier to do them now during the holidays because you'll be too busy or tired during term time.

Also, the only way to improve oral is to practise on your own. I can teach you the skills in class, but applying those skills need practice. If you can start picking out your weak areas, it'll be for you during the oral lessons that we're going to have in Term 3.

I'm sure you won't consider this the best news for the hols, but it'll get you ahead next semester. All the best for the rest of the holidays. For those of you who are naturally hardworking, remember to mix some fun in between projects and work; for the rest of us, vice versa.
